Too many people (myself included) heart on the sleeve contemporary country lacks believability. Too many damn personal pronouns. And those folks have stolen 70's rock and roll production. Bastards.

But this is just that much unslick that you can tell it is real. I don't like (contemporary) country, but here I like the heartfelt confessional lyrics. The background vocals and steel guitars during the first chorus were brilliant. The drum flam thereafter is unfortunate.

See, I think style is unimportant. In each one there is someone who has done it right.

My sister loves country music. Her only comment ever about ballads is: "I really liked the words and I can relate to what they're saying". I think that possibly, from a CW fan's standpoint, this is the only criterion.

It's a 12-track full-length from JoDell Nauert, the gifted Tarpon Springs country singer (and songwriter -- she penned five of these tunes). There's nothing seriously original going on here, but JoDell tempers a few creeping modern pop-country tendencies -- as on "Unraveling", "Out of Loneliness" and "Are You Forgetting Someone" -- with a healthy dose of old-school Barbara Mandrell/Linda Rondstadt-doing "Jambalaya (On The Bayou)" vibe.
"That's The Way Love's Supposed to Be", "Tomboy" and "Should Have Been You" are standouts, but excepting a couple of too-overwrought ballads toward the end of the disc, pretty much everything here is way above average. (www.jodellsmusic.com) *** 1/2

Close your eyes and let the CD "More Than I Ever Dreamed" take you from traditional country to contemporary stylings in a smooth and well produced package. With well executed vocals and instrumentation this CD displays a job well done.

Easy on the eyes and easy on the ears JoDell gets your toe tapping with well written and performed songs. The sentiments flow with a sincere and emotional vocal balance. I'm very happy to add this artist to my collection.

We look forward to seeing JoDell's continued success.

Sincerely,
